Interactivity

We want to be able to experience and explore the sounds in the anthropological archive as a global mix, and then move to a particular location, effectively zooming in to a geographic area where we would then be able to discern more fine grained geographic differences in the sounds.

In the installation it would be possible to use a sensor based environment to enable audience movement to interact with the sound. We could consider using something like Rolf Gelhar's Sound Space installation for this purpose - gehlhaar.org

However it might be more interesting to use mobile phones in the hands of the audience as controllers. The motion detectors or iBeacons could be used?

The mobile app could then produce augmented reality style visuals within the space - allowing navigation and bookmarking of material, which could be gathered and deposited in another space for group discussion.

This is another reason why a networked speaker setup would be more flexible and powerful, as clearer localised sound would result, and we could have local collection points for further interaction - even in a different room.

We could use the Dialogue Performance Interface I developed for interactive theatre - step forwards, back, left, or right to engage the conversation.
